Senior Kappa Luncheon

March 28, 2015

The Country Club at Woodmore

"Do you love your fraternity or chapter?" A question asked by keynote speaker Brother Ronald Watson, Sr. at this year’s Senior Kappa Luncheon. The event was held on Saturday, March 28th at the Woodmore Country Club in Mitchellville, Md. Brothers honored have shown that exact love for Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated, and exemplified a high level of commitment to the Upper Marlboro/Waldorf (MD) Alumni Chapter through the mighty test of time.

Brother Watson Sr. spoke on the early beginnings of the fraternity, and how the dream of one became the vision of ten, and eventually passed on to thousands. Those present for the creation of the chapter were also in attendance including Brother McKinley Hayes, charter member and first Polemarch of the UM/W chapter. "The reason why the creation began; we were looking at the vision of our dear founders in terms of achievement and expansion, and back in 1983 in Prince George’s County there was a need for awareness and exposure of our fraternity." Now in 2015, the chapter is called home to many senior members, with some whom have enjoyed 50 years or more in The Bond. "I was honored as a neophyte to have the opportunity to chair this event for Brothers who have blazed the trail in Kappa," shared Brother William Spruill, chairman of the Senior Kappa Luncheon committee, and one of the newest members initiated into the fraternity through the UM/W chapter.

Though the event was to indeed celebrate the past and present, many spoke on the future of the fraternity with an unwavering desire to push Kappa forward. In discussion about new plans for the good of the chapter and the fraternity even Brother Hayes concluded, "I am not going to stop, I am not."
