As the 24th Polemarch of the Upper Marlboro/Waldorf (MD) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., I want to welcome and thank you for visiting our website.
The Upper Marlboro/Waldorf (MD) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated has been serving communities in Prince George’s and Charles counties since 1984. Our goal is to promote strong, healthy, and socially conscience communities through youth mentoring programs, men’s health and wellness initiatives, and active civic engagement.
Our mission is not only on paper, but in practice. We, along with the UMW Silhouettes (our auxiliary organization for the wives of Kappas), have partnered with organizations like The Family Justice Center in Prince George’s County to serve as a beacon of hope for victims of domestic violence. We have funded and provided the labor to renovate spaces in their facility, provide much-needed supplies for women and children, and supported annual fundraising and holiday events. We have adopted elementary schools in Prince George’s and Charles counties providing reading buddies and academic support to the student and teachers. We are social justice advocates working with the Prince George’s and Charles county sheriffs’ offices, along with the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) to promote personal safety, policing accountability, and an end to systemic racism. Annual events like highway clean-ups, Christmas in April, Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner baskets, toy drives, and coat drives are just some of the ways we continually give back to the community with our time, talent, and treasure.
In partnership with the Kappa Youth Development Foundation, UMW provides scholarships to deserving students from Prince George's and Charles counties who are working towards a bachelor’s degree or professional certification. We believe investing in our future means literally investing. Through fundraising efforts and community partnerships, we have distributed thousands of dollars in scholarships.
Please feel free to access this site for information on activities sponsored by the chapter, community service projects, and youth mentoring opportunities. If you are a brother new to the area, we welcome you to attend one of our chapter meetings in your search for a new Kappa home. If you have a passion for service to the community and meet the requirements for membership, please contact us.
We look forward to working with our communities to educate, empower, enlighten, and embrace change and progress.
